Sticking to an exercise you enjoy doing is the key to staying interested and
keeping the weight off. Other factors to take into account, would you prefer to
work out in a gym and pay an association fee, or would you rather make an
investment and purchase your own equipment for the home to get in
shape?
You won't stick to an exercise plan for a long time if you decide
to incorporate an exercise that you hate or don't want to do. Make sure that you
take time to think about what exercise you won't dread doing on a regular basis.
For example if you hate running, you know that you won't be waking up before the
sun comes out to hit the pavement. If this is the case, walking may be the best
solution for you.
Walking is one of the most common forms of exercise
because it can be done at any age level and fits into everyone's level of
fitness. The only thing that differs with this is the intensity and period of
time the activity is completed. Because it is so flexible, people can
incorporate different levels into their walking including speed. This is one of
the few exercises that you can participate in while having the opportunity to
talk with because it's not a high intensity workout. Plus walking with a friend
will make it more enjoyable and the time will go by relatively
fast.
Regardless of the exercise you decide to pursue, you need to start
off doing a low concentration and gradually build up the intensity of your
program after a few weeks of time. This is the key to long term weight loss and
you sticking to your goal.
For individuals who are not in good shape,
starting off walking a few minutes a day and gradually increasing the time/
length will be the best for your health and won't be overwhelming to start off
with. Walking in different routes every day will keep your surroundings more
interesting and keep you motivated. Also, you can have friends come along with
you to keep you interested.
