The job of chiropractors is to perform treatments to realign bones back into
their proper place. This job has very little room for error and special training
is necessary to offer treatments. So, obviously people want someone who is a
licensed chiropractor to work on them, and this article will tell you the 5
steps needed to become a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.).
1. The first
thing you must do is receive a four year bachelor鈥檚 degree in an undergraduate
major that preferably is related to chiropractic work. The areas that are best
are: anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, and social sciences.
2.
Next, you will need to apply at a chiropractic college. To be accepted the
college will review your GPA and coursework to ensure you are a good candidate
for the school. You will be studying at this college for four years, so it is
important that you choose a college that will be best for you.
During
your four years, you will be doing a combination of studying in areas such as:
anatomy, chemistry, microbiology, physiology, and lab-work. All of this intense
training is required because it will prepare you for your career as a D.C. You
will also be required to do thousands of hours of hands-on practice with
patients.
3. Once you have finally completed chiropractic school you will
need to get your license. You do not get your license when you graduate but
instead have to pass a several tests for licensure. One of the tests is given to
you by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is four parts. You must
pass all four parts to receive your license. Additionally, to practice in your
chosen state, you may be required to take and pass even more state regulated
tests.
4. Once you have your license you need to either set-up your own
practice or join an existing practice. You may need to be willing to relocate as
there is a chance a D.C. will not be needed in your area.
5. Finally, you
will need to continue your education so you are up-to-date on the current modern
practices of the trade. A majority of states require that you continue to study
in areas that are related to chiropractic care. It is common for D.C.鈥檚 to
specialize in an area of study that compliments their chiropractic work, such as
massage therapy.
People who go to chiropractors are putting their bones
and safety into your hands and that is why chiropractors must go through
intensive training to ensure they are properly trained. You should now know the
5 steps to become a licensed chiropractor.
